Firefighters battle a blaze in east London as residents are urged to stay indoors due to the extreme heat and potential health risks. The incident, which occurred at a waste facility on Chequers Lane in Dagenham, has prompted a large-scale response from the London Fire Brigade (LFB). With temperatures soaring to 33C by Thursday, the risk of wildfires in the city is at an all-time high. This is the fifth heatwave of the year, and the LFB has already tackled over 600 grass and wildfire incidents so far. The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke, and residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed to avoid inhaling harmful fumes. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the combination of drought conditions and high temperatures has created a challenging situation for firefighters. The LFB has deployed two turntable ladders and a Hose Laying Unit and High Volume Pump to the scene to ensure a steady water supply. Station Commander Graham Beers emphasized the importance of residents' cooperation, stating that the fire will require significant effort to control. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges posed by extreme weather conditions and the need for proactive measures to mitigate the risk of wildfires in urban areas.
