Politics in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana just hit a new low, and it’s leaving many wondering where the line is drawn. In a recent BRS roadshow, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) unleashed a barrage of aggressive and provocative remarks aimed directly at Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, sparking yet another heated chapter in the region’s politically charged atmosphere. But here’s where it gets controversial: KTR didn’t hold back, using highly personal and demeaning language that has raised eyebrows across the political spectrum.
Addressing the crowd, KTR took aim at Revanth Reddy with a remark that has since gone viral: ‘Ee Revanth Reddy gaadu emi peekaledu… vaadoka pottodu, inthe untadu’—a thinly veiled jab at the Chief Minister’s physical stature. He didn’t stop there. KTR went on to warn Revanth, ‘Orei pottoda (Revanth) inkosaari BRS vasthe neeku untadi ra… mamulga undadu,’ implying that if the BRS returns to power, Revanth’s political standing would be severely diminished. The BRS working president even resorted to using derogatory terms like ‘Howlagaallu’ to belittle Revanth and other Congress leaders.
And this is the part most people miss: The toxic exchange isn’t just about political rivalry—it’s a reflection of a deeper cultural issue. In recent years, political discourse in Telangana has become so charged with personal attacks and insults that families are now reconsidering letting their children watch political debates on TV. The question arises: Is this the kind of political culture we want to normalize? While passion and debate are essential in democracy, the line between healthy criticism and personal degradation seems to have blurred—and it’s the state’s progress that suffers.
But here’s the bigger question: Can Telangana afford to let such regressive behavior define its political landscape?
